Error Identifier: argument.missing

Every error reported by PHPStan has an error identifier. Here’s a list of all error identifiers. In PHPStan Pro you can see the error identifier next to each error and filter errors by their identifiers.

Code example #

<?php declare(strict_types = 1);

function createUser(string $name, string $email): void
{
}

createUser(name: 'John');

Why is it reported? #

A required parameter was not provided in the function or method call. When using named arguments, all required parameters that are not passed by name must still be supplied. PHP will throw a fatal error at runtime if a required parameter is missing.

In the example above, the createUser function requires both $name and $email, but only the name argument is passed.

How to fix it #

Pass all required arguments:

 <?php declare(strict_types = 1);
 
 function createUser(string $name, string $email): void
 {
 }

-createUser(name: 'John');
+createUser(name: 'John', email: 'john@example.com');

How to ignore this error #

You can use the identifier argument.missing to ignore this error using a comment:

// @phpstan-ignore argument.missing
codeThatProducesTheError();

You can also use only the identifier key to ignore all errors of the same type in your configuration file in the ignoreErrors parameter:

parameters:
	ignoreErrors:
		-
			identifier: argument.missing
