Error Identifier: generics.moreTypes

Every error reported by PHPStan has an error identifier. Here’s a list of all error identifiers. In PHPStan Pro you can see the error identifier next to each error and filter errors by their identifiers.

/**
 * @template T
 * @template U of \Exception
 */
class Collection
{
}

/**
 * @extends Collection<int, \InvalidArgumentException, string>
 */
class MyCollection extends Collection
{
}

Why is it reported? #

The generic type Collection<int, \InvalidArgumentException, string> specifies 3 type arguments, but the Collection class only declares 2 template parameters (T and U). The extra type argument string has no corresponding template parameter and will be ignored.

How to fix it #

Remove the extra type arguments to match the number of template parameters:

 /**
- * @extends Collection<int, \InvalidArgumentException, string>
+ * @extends Collection<int, \InvalidArgumentException>
  */
 class MyCollection extends Collection
 {
 }

How to ignore this error #

You can use the identifier generics.moreTypes to ignore this error using a comment:

// @phpstan-ignore generics.moreTypes
codeThatProducesTheError();

You can also use only the identifier key to ignore all errors of the same type in your configuration file in the ignoreErrors parameter:

parameters:
	ignoreErrors:
		-
			identifier: generics.moreTypes
