Error Identifier: new.deprecatedTrait

Every error reported by PHPStan has an error identifier. Here’s a list of all error identifiers. In PHPStan Pro you can see the error identifier next to each error and filter errors by their identifiers.

Code example #

<?php declare(strict_types = 1);

/** @deprecated Use NewLogger instead */
trait OldLogger
{
	public function log(string $message): void {}
}

class Logger
{
	use OldLogger;
}

$logger = new Logger();

Why is it reported? #

The new expression instantiates a class that uses a deprecated trait. The trait has been marked with a @deprecated PHPDoc tag, indicating it is scheduled for removal or replacement.

This rule is provided by the phpstan-deprecation-rules package.

How to fix it #

Replace the deprecated trait with its recommended replacement:

 class Logger
 {
-	use OldLogger;
+	use NewLogger;
 }

Or if the entire class is deprecated, instantiate the replacement class:

-$logger = new Logger();
+$logger = new NewLogger();

How to ignore this error #

You can use the identifier new.deprecatedTrait to ignore this error using a comment:

// @phpstan-ignore new.deprecatedTrait
codeThatProducesTheError();

You can also use only the identifier key to ignore all errors of the same type in your configuration file in the ignoreErrors parameter:

parameters:
	ignoreErrors:
		-
			identifier: new.deprecatedTrait
